Take the plate and glue it in the right angle and height you marked in the magazine.
Check te height at the back of the magazine with the marking on the dummy. -

Use the right glue. Put the magazine top and bottom together without the spring when the glue is dry enough.
You're now ready to test your home made SSF. ;D

Simply AWESOME. The pics really cleared up some of the grey areas. I'm gonna buy a spare mag–maybe Jason has one–and go to town. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the effort. ;D
I was at the range today, and got my load work done with 69 Sierra HPBT Match. I can get them to feed, but I have to pop out the mag and load one for every shot. That gets real old. This summer I plan on shooting some F-TR and I need a faster way to load 20 rounds in 20 minutes. This will work great.
A big THANK YOU again!!! 😉

Hey Marcel,
You're not going to believe this, but I found the easiest solution yet!!! I went into my gun room to get ready to start this project, and just for the heck of it–I had a brainstorm–I pulled out a spare .308 magazine. I slid it into the .223 Super Varmint and dropped a .223 cartridge in. The case fit inbetween the .308 feed lips perfectly–didn't bind, but close enough to feed straight.
Well, the .223 fed perfectly every time I tried it! Over and over.
That's the beauty of the Tikka system! Everything is interchangeable.
So, until I find out otherwise–a person can drop a .223 cartridge loaded with a LONG, HEAVY bullet, onto a .308 size magazine that has been inserted into the .223 rifle–and it will feed perfectly. 8)

The idea of using a .308 magzine in a .223 T3 crossed my mind the first time I made some pictures.
I do not know why I didn't do anything with the idea. Luckily you still thought of it!!!I'm just curious. Can one use a .338 magazine as a SSF in a .308?
Best wishes for 2012,
Marcel

I tried using a 308 mag a while back but the feed lips were too far apart to hold the little 223.
You can definitely use the long action mag for 308 based cartridges. You'll need to modify the bolt stop so the bolt will slide back far enough the pick up the round.
Tikka uses the two bolt stops. One for short action rounds and one for long. A bench grinder and a file is all that is needed to extend the short bolt stop.
I took the follower out of a wsm mag and modified my 223 mag to accept it. The only problem was I couldn't load more than 4 rounds into the mag without feeding problems. The geometry of the mag spring couldn't push the larger follower up level with the friction of rounds in the mag.
I did however have great luck opening up my wsm mag to accept a long action follower. That combined with the mods to my bolt stop feeds my wsm with vlds flawlessly.
Happy New Year!

My mag is a 2006 model, altho I doubt they changed them. A .223 case drops into my mag perfectly, and barely touches the feed lips on each side. There is no wiggle room–side to side. Plus, you gain 1/2″ of room in the magazine (toward the rear) to drop a round in. That's something like….[ .500″ ] ;D I think the 75 A-Max is .100″ longer than a 50 V-Max, but don't quote me on that.
All in all, a great discovery for the .223 heavies. I'll take some pics today, and post 'em up.

let's see those pictures. 🙂
I don't use the original Tikka stock's and magazines any more. I think about selling them.

O.K., here they are. Not proffessional quality like yours, but you'll get the idea…
The two mags for comparison–

Showing how the .223 cartridge sits on top of the .308 (med) follower, and between the lips–

All the extra room afforded by the Medium magazine (65 gr Sierra GameKing)–

And a crappy pic of cartridge in relation to feed ramp in chamber–

Now I fear not…80 gr VLD's. 😉

Good pictures, Sometimes the solution can be so simple.
