Cheap ammo for .223 T3 Lite
Posted by AMace on November 29, 2017 at 6:18 pmI just bought a T3 Lite Stainless 8″ twist .223 Rem for my son for Christmas, but have heard from some that I will not like “cheap” ammo. I'm wondering what everyone else's experience is, as that's exactly what I planned on him running at the range, and then something more expensive/suitable for hunting when the time came. Cheap brands in my local store include AE, Winchester, and Remington FMJ's- all usually in 55gr.
Has anyone had any good or bad luck in their T3's with the cheap bulk stuff? He's completely capable of shooting sub-MOA at 100 yards, and will be frustrated and disappointed if he isn't.Timbox replied 7 years ago 5 Members · 4 Replies -

Hey man congrats on the new purchase! If you wanna get the best compromise of accuracy and price, I recommend handloading! Sorry, I know this doesn't help you much, but my whole definition of accuracy changed when I started handloading. On top of that, I'm at roughly .40 cents a round for match grade ammo!
Otherwise, if you can find ADI outback ammo, I've had really good luck with that, and it's relatively cheap. I've had good luck with hornady, too, if you can find it. I'd definitely save the brass from those two!
Good luck man!

I know I'm a little late but here's my experience.
ADI shoots fine.
Aguila won't chamber in my rifle.
Remington didn't shoot well.
Fiocchi .223 with Hornady VMAX bullets is more expensive but it shot quite well.
I tried a bunch of factory ammo when I got the rifle but I now hand load two bullets: 55 grain BT-FMJs for plinking and Hornady 50 grain VMAX for varmints.

If you want the best out of ANY rifle then hand loading is the way to go. That said all Tikka and Sako rifles shoot very well with Tikka/Sako cartridges and all Lapua. Use heavier bullets with that 1/8 twist, say 69gr and up, and you´ll see what all the fuzz is about …

How accurate and constant are we talking? I use my .223 lite for plinking, hunting ect. I don't go too far out maybe 300 and am happy with some bulk Wolf 55gr SP. Now you might be LOL and or shaking your head, but I m not talking 1/2″ @ 300 either 😉
