warranty work
Posted by yomm on January 20, 2012 at 8:07 pmHello fellow Tikka owners… Sorry about my first post being like this, but was doing a search and found you guys and thought you might know how to guide me….. I just bought a new Varmint and was checking the free floated barrel and found out it wasn't. Slid a piece of notebook paper ( .003 thick ) between the barrel and stock and it stopped about 2 1/2″ from the receiver….. Do you think this is something the average guy could fix or should I send it in?…… Not too crazy about having to pay shipping a brand new gun in and maybe waiting a month or two…….

Yomm,
This may be a silly question, but have you fired the rifle and reason to feel that the fact that it is not fully floated might be a problem?
The reason I ask is that I have a couple of custom rifles and my smith beds the action and the first couple of inches of the barrel. Not saying that it is right or wrong, but I have had ZERO issues with POI change.
If I recall, all of my T3 Lites have contact with the stock within a couple of inches of the action. No issues what so ever.
Just wondering if you are troubleshooting… Or just checking the “float”
If you were just checking, I would shoot the rifle before I went any further…

Glad to hear all your barrel's in your Tikka's are like mine. I was checking around the net and it seems like it's the same way with everybody else…. The reason I was asking is because of what the owners manual said. It said to check these items before use and one was to slip a piece of paper under the barrel and make sure it travels the entire length….. Thanks for your answer……. Looks like it's off to the range!

Yomm,
Let us know how she shoots! I would be surprised if you weren't happy with it. What chambering?

Hey Mike….. Got my Tikka in 223. I need to break it in first and then plan to have a competition against my CZ 527 varmint…. Oh yea.

Yomm,
Good deal. I have two T3 Stainless Lites in 223 with the 1 in 8 twist. The first one was the first Tikka that I bought… and it sold me. Even in the lite configuration, that rifle will throw 55 Nosler ballistic Tips into 1/2 moa groups all day long. Last fall I tried some intitial load development with the 69 SMK's… still have some more work to do there… haven't gotten the accuracy as the 55's.
Picked the second one up right around Christmas time. It was used but in excellent condition. Got 4 kids, two are hunting age and two just starting to get them shooting. They all fight over shooting that 223… so I figured that it would be worth having a second one around… maybe I will get to shoot it some.
I picked up two boxes of 70 VLDs to give a try as well.
Shoot straight,
Mike
