Custom .30/06 T3
Posted by hillbillybear on November 24, 2011 at 3:49 pmHere is my Heavy Barrel .30/06.
It began life as a .308 Varmint model and was rebarreled with Shilen #6 contour chambered in .30/06.
I have no idea who built in as I just discovered sitting on the shelf in a local gun shop. In the photo it has a 3.5-10 Pentax on it. Currently it is wearing a 4.5-14 Nikon with a mil-dot reticle.

Two separate three shot groups using the 155 Hornady AMAX and 49.0 grains of VihtaVouri N140 powder. One Group each on either side of the ten ring (Note the other bullet holes in the target are from various other rifles)

A volunteer for the deep freezer I killed with the155 Amax load a few years ago:

There are newer, faster, and flashier rounds but few, if any, that can say “Been there…Done that” in as many different roles and places as the venerable old 06.
