Converting Tikka T3 lite actions from short to long
Posted by m_freeman on August 19, 2011 at 4:30 pmI hear the Tikka actions on the T3 lite are all long actions but in the short action calibers there is a bolt stop in place. Is this an easy mod for a gunsmith to convert the T3 action from short to long?

I'm also very interested in this! I'd like to use 30-06 magazines or something similar so I can seat the bullets out to the rifling and still use a magazine for loading.

This is a simple replacement of the bolt stop. Beretta sells the bolt stop through Brownells for a pretty penny. I'll look up the part number and post it here.
As part of the new mag system I'm working on, I figured I would manufacture a nicer bolt stop here in the US to cut down on cost.

Here is the link to the bolt release from Brownells.

The description is terrible but this is the correct part. The kit comes with both the long and short action bolt release as well as the necessary replacement spring and rod.
The MFR Part Number is: S5850255
Hope this helps until I can get ours into production.

Hi Jim,
We are in the process of designing a conversion kit. It will go with a new bottom metal we are making.
The bolt stop will be offered as a stand alone product as well since Tikka wants a ridiculous $45 for a replacement one.
I'm glad you found what you were looking for!

What about cutting back the bolt stop and use a 3006 magazine so I will be able to seat bullets out in the T3 308 win? I want bullets to touch the rifling and have the cartridges still work through the magazine as I am sure that is what everyone wants. Has anyone tried cutting the bolt stop back?
Glad I found the form as I love T3's

I have the same exact question! (new here by the way) my rifle is a 260 CTR, and I can't afford to buy trg-22 mag's for it, so I am looking at mag conversions and the long action -06 bottom metal does seem very attractive, but I. An find absalutly zero info on this mod. If there's any new info on this topic I would love to know! Thanks!

I ground my bolt stop back and modified my mags for my 300wsm t3. The bolt stop was a piece of cake but the magazines were a real pain in the ass. After i modified two, i bought a 300 win mag magazine and tried that too. It ended up working with a little grinding. Soon to be a better alternative but very expensive check out aihpa.com to see the mags David Waters came up with.

I have done it to my tikka t3 varmint in 260 rem,
Put bolt release assembly for long action in
And purchase a long action 25-06 extended 5 shot magazine. I can seat 140 gr berger VLD projectiles to the lands, and have plenty of space in magazine feed and function excellent even with 120 gr amax projectiles.
