Oh yes – and bed the rifle and ss lug. That will get you closer. Also make sure you can get 300+ inches (depending on what load shoots best)with your scope  via turrets/reticle, or both. And if you want consistency, put a metal trigger guard on, and if you don't have pillars, put them in. This will give your action screws very precise torque = which equals consistency.

For 1000, you need minimum 0.5 MOA consistently, prob closer to 0.25. That means fire a minimum 1.5″ (.5moa) group at 300yds consistently and repeatably. If you have 1.5″ group horizontal, thats good. If it is 1.5″ vertical, thats going to complicate things. 1.5″ vertical at 300 will translate to a lot at 1000. Altho it all depends on what you want to hit at 1000 – a 8″ gong, or a 2'x2' gong….

As for the load, the G7 bullets you choose to use will be on the outer edge of what the chamber/rifle lands/case capacity can work efficiently with. You may find a 150gr SMK may work better. the 168 might be too long for optimal use.

Again, if you haven't done it before, 1000yds, its not as easy as it seems. Actually its rather humbling unless you have a rifle/scope/load combo thats made for that type of shooting. The weak link in your setup is the chosen rifle/scope, not the 7-08 caliber choice… Remember, It (and you)has to be a 200-300 yd tack driver first, and long distance gun second. If you can't hit a quarter 5/5 times at 200yds, you won't hit squat consistently at 1000, cold bore or hot bore.

Accuracy at long range is a combo of many things, not just buying a hunting rifle and hoping it shoots 1/2 moa out of the box. I won't even get into shooters technique for long range – and no, technique is not just sitting at a bench and pulling the trigger! Add a slight breeze, and it complicates things more.

FYI I have had 6 t3's, and not one would be considered an adequate LR rifle – but they are wicked hunting rifles. Only 2 were consistent MOA guns out of the box with no mods.

I do think the 7-08 is a better choice for this than the 308 (which is a common 1000yd caliber).

Well, having tried it, with what you describe, here is my findings. Yes it will work. On a scale of 1-10, with the setup you describe, it will be a 2-3. Been there done that, I speak from experience.

Yes, you need to/are aware that you need to lengthen things. It is so much easier to just go buy a mag than try that mod, that is, if your time is worth anything. The bolt stop you can just grind out to length.

Second, your scope mag is pretty minimal. I would suggest over 20x for 1000m.

Lastly, the light barrel will give you a couple shots then as it heats, it will get unpredictable at distance.

I would try it at 400-500 first and you'll see what your setup will do – you will see quickly that shooting to 1000 isn't as easy as the internet makes it out to be.
    Good luck!
