A CTR stock doesn't have a pinch point/pressure point in the bbl channel. Even the factory hvy bbl floats in a bone stock CTR stock. I won't beat a dead horse, but I can't see a better way to see if the pressure point may be contributing to the issue I was having. You certainly can't be suggesting that I should of reworked the load again because I ” free floated” the bbl. You guys can take whatever you want from my results, but it seemed pretty telling to me.
I just did basically did the same thing with a rem 700. I really didn't want to mess with the stock if I didn't need to , so I developed a decent load for it in stock form a few months back. I took it out this week and it was throwing flyers. I lightly dremeled the pressure point out, relieved the forearm a bit and shimmed the action up by the recoil lug. Same day, same shells, and my sub 1/2 moa load showed up on the target again. The gun shot about 2 1/2″ lower after I shimmed it and took the stress away. Again… take my advice or leave it as I was just relaying my results. The 700 needs bedded, as do a few other S/A 700's I own. Most have the action shimmed by the front action screw and everyone has shot 1/2″ groups or better.
