I just removed the rail on my new SuperVarmint. Took a fair bit of heat and prying.
To remove the glue residue I tried soaking it in acetone and gun solvent and also heated it a few times, but there was no way it was gonna come off like that. It’s like cement.
I ended up having to use a razor blade and heat, which worked but unfortunately I also scratched off the light cerakote that was on there. That exposed some bare steel now so I’m worried it’s gonna rust on me eventually.
I was wondering if I should mask it off and put one coat of paint on it to prevent rust in the future. I don’t particularly want to take of the rail to clean and oil the receiver under there all the time.
